If you’re looking for a peaceful escape into the wild heart of Florida, Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve is an absolute local gem. Located 14-miles from Bay Pointe, this 3,500-acre wetland ecosystem offers a shaded retreat that feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle.

The "slough" (pronounced slew) is a slow-moving river that serves as a vital corridor for animals.

On any given day, you can expect to see Alligators sunning themselves on logs near the observation decks, dozens of softshell and sliders Turtles gathered in the "Gator Lake" area and wading birds like Great Blue Herons, Snowy Egrets, and the elusive Roseate Spoonbill. Stop by the Interpretive Center before your walk to see the current "Sightings Board," where volunteers list the animals spotted by visitors earlier that morning!
